As I have been digging into the the concept of songwriters vs soundmakers, I have luckily come across one of the most rescent Nowness short documentarty about sound. Los Angeles-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Younge has been over the years, recognised as one of the artists to fight against the slow death of what we call analog production. Every now and then an artist wants to get closer to a sound that will move people in deeper levels. Often coming from the hip hop and rap industry such as Jay Z, Snoop, RZA, Ghostface Killah, Common, Raphael Saadiq, Bilal and Ali Shaheed of A Tribe Called Quest, to name a few, they seem to share a common perception on the importance of quality of sounds vs the concept of fast product generation. As artist like raphael Saadiq reflect on the fact that mp3 sounds and product are ” running black culture to the ground” we get a chance to dig into the world of Adrian Younge, and his articulate mind about sound.
