Rusty Long – InnerViews by Cyrus Sutton

Explorer, journalist, pro big wave surfer and photographer, Rusty Long went on from being a teenage junior lifeguard with his brother Greg to becoming  a fixture in the world of big wave surfing. Until last year it is still along his brother that he had dedicated his lifetime to pushing back some of the limits of surfing. But about a year ago, while burning some debris in the backyard of his Mexico property, Rusty got seriously injured and burned. In a small doc directed by Cyrus Sutton we seem to follow the slow tempo of a man on recovery Rusty looks back on his way of life, his choices such as being unassisted by jet ski and choosing to use only their own two hands like the North Shore pioneers. Beautifully of key, slow and slightly haunting, this short is a must see.
